when the president calls for all the new taxes in the fiscal cliff negotiation, mr. president we already have a big tax increase that will hit on january 2nd. that of course is the obamacare taxes. you mentioned one of them, the tax on medical devices and medical equipment, bill, which i agree with, congressman price. that will reduce innovation and will reduce the kind of invention and new products we need to keep people healthier. in addition to that, bill, don't forget there is something called 3.8% investment tax surcharge in the obamacare bill that starts in january. one of the things that the president says is a little misleading i will only raise tax rates back where they were in the clinton era. you heard him say that a lot of times, bill. he is not including that 3.8% investment tax that will raise the taxes higher than they were in the '90s. bill: i see. seeing it right here. if you make more than $200,000. >> that's right. bill: if you're in a household of 250 or above, subject to a new 3.8% tax. well, you know, ultimately republicans argue this is coming down on the b

talking about the fiscal cliff and this is framed around that point, in the new year, with the bush year tax cuts expire, there's a housing tax cut that's going to expire-- this is where we got with the bubble. could we be headed back there. explain what housing is going to expire. >> this is called the mortgage debt relief act. put in place in 2007. distressed home owners selling in a short sales. that principal has been forgiven, maybe they sold for $100,000, and maybe it was 150,000, the 50,000 they don't have to pay taxes on it. with this act expiring that means they're going to have to pay taxes. this is staggering, the average short sale looking at about $95,000 is lost when a short sale happens and looking at the taxes if this cut is expired. people owe as much as $33,000 on principal balance that nobody is recouping. >> the government says we need the revenue. will it bring revenue. >> technically 1.3 billion dollars in revenue not very much. i think the the implications of-- 1.3 billion dollars versus what this could do to the housing market, actually to the economy as a whole,

the fiscal cliff. speaker boehner, i think, is right to say that your ultimatum. you eat it, it's your deal. we will let it all play out. tracy: deep into the root of all this is political discord in general. but all everyone thinks about is the next vote. speaker boehner thinking about his reelection. no one is thinking about the bigger cause. it is really about those things. lou: i would agree with part of that. one thing the one thing people are forgetting, the best deal on the table, sequestration. point of fact. the $1.2 trillion in force budget cuts on the defense department. plus the bush tax cuts. it means we are approaching the 2 trillion-dollar shock to the system. it is the best deal in transit at maximum of maximum spending cuts. the president is talking about two to one. twice as much tax hike is spending cuts. this inverted, it's the best deal for the republicans, both parties and the president agree, and they can't win anybody if we go over the fiscal cliff because that was the deal that they made. tracy: yes, it is crazy. i'm sure you will be talking about it. when you have

in the back and forth on the fiscal cliff talks. the polls out, this is one from gallup. and the new york post shows this poll -- back to our topic, our question, do you support or oppose right-to-work laws? paul in utica, michigan, democrat. caller: i live in suburban detroit. i am a retired union worker, not automotive, by the way. i don't think my union is a thug in any way, but i think it's a sad day for the state of michigan. if the workers in this country cannot look to michigan like they always have, for a decent pay, and i think that is where we are headed, i just think it is a sad day. all the people who voted for these republicans, they are going to get what they asked for. this is what is going on here. i really sad about it. host: the car czar for michigan said it's a choice between your jobs and higher wages or more jobs and lower wages. ay we may end up with lower wages. it is a move in the wrong direction. i think we would have gotten more jobs year even without this. as the automotive and the economy grew here. i think it was on its way. i did not think we needed this. so, a do

failed on that rally and shot up 1421 and sttrted to back off. the fiscal cliff is hanging on the market. as soon as you see john boehner talk for obama it doesn't matter. the market seems to come off of that news. traders have got to look out if there's a joint announcement, chances are they're close to a deal, we will see the market higher. look out for that. dave: let's get off of stocks and deal with oil. we see oil slipping a bit and you see a point at which you might stop and that is $84.50. that is the point we have got to look at coming in next week as the starting point for this drop. phil: we have come down to that range several times over the last few weeks and that is when you had highest level supply out there and you didn't really have much geopolitical risk. we start to come back to that mode so we will scale back to that level before things heat up in the middle east and we have supply crunches due to the cold weather ahead of us. >> next week we have the final fit meeting of the year. the jobs report and everything we have been seeing. phil: we will see the fed continue
